Melissa Hernandez MSN, APRN FNP- BC
Melissa Hernandez is native to San Antonio educated at University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio with a Masters in Science: Nursing, Advanced Practice Registered Nurse, Family Nurse Practitioner board certified. She has a 24 year career in nursing with 13 of those at the Advance Nurse Practitioner level. Ms. Hernandez began her nursing career in the operating room working as an OR circulator, where she first realized that the application of preventative medicine could positively impact patients. She then decided to continue expanding her education to care for patients. As her career advanced, she felt the need to interact with patients more, and began her journey to become an Advance Practice nurse. During her clinical training at the UT Health Science Center, she discovered her passion for primary care, and fostering healthcare provider-patient relationships.
Her strong desire to make a difference in healthcare, and build patient relationships in a practice setting that felt like family inspired her to start Babcock Health and Wellness Clinic in November 2013. She strived to curate an environment built on preventative medicine and patient centered medical care. Expanding upon that sentiment, Ms. Hernandez went into practice with her daughter Dr. Gutierrez. Together this mother-daughter team, along with the wonderful staff at BHWC, strive to make patients feel like family, and make a long lasting contribution to the community where they were raised.
Ms. Hernandez is the proud mother of two children, and enjoys spending time with her family, dancing, and reading on her patio. Her goal is to educate patients on prevention and early disease through multifactorial lifestyle intervention to prevent the risk of illness. She spends quality time with patients and educates on improving quality of life.
